Ø
Start the quest by finding Kayna bint Iswas, a historian of Ispar.
She studies in her desert home, east of Samsur at 1.8S, 36.6E. Taking the Desert
Ridge Portal from Qalaba'r (72.7S, 14.0E) will drop you close by, but watch out
for the Reed Sharks and Shreths when you exit.
Ø
Her house is guarded by a large gate. You will need lockpick to
open it (~182 difficulty). Inside, two Iron Golems stand sentry.
Ø
If you bring her a Skeleton Skill, she will give you a copy of her
book in return: The
Silifi of Crimson Stars: Volume I, a History by Kayna bint Iswas of
the Walim.
Ø
This history tells the story of the creation of the axe and makes
mention of the 5 enchanted rubies which give the Silifi additional powers.
Ø
The Haft
The Broken Haft is found in Leikotha's Crypt (10.2S, 31.3E). Leikotha is one of
the several Lesser Mu'Miyahs in the crypt. Watch out for War Spells! The Haft is
on a quest timer, so you may only retrieve one Haft per person. Before the
Heroes' Respite patch, it was possible to give the haft away, so a friend could
hand you a second one. However, now the Haft can no longer be given away.Take
the Broken Haft back to Kayna bint Iswas for repair. It's not necessary to have
axe skill trained to have the Haft repaired. If you don't have the skill to
complete the quest, you can carry around this spiffy looking Repaired Haft to
bludgeon rabbits with!
Ø
The Blade
Since the original blade has been irreparably destroyed, an Armoredillo spine
must be substituted to restore the axe. Each type of spine will give the axe
different damage properties. Check the table to the right for the different
choices. Remember that once the blade has been attached, it cannot be removed.
Use the Spine on the Repaired Haft to attach the blade. You must have axe skill
trained or specialized to complete this part of the quest. It is recommended
that your axe skill be at least 200+ or you may not be successful. Even with a
high axe skill, you still have a chance of failure. If necessary, have a
creature mage buff your axe skill before attempting.
If you're unsuccessful, the haft will break and the spine will be destroyed. You
will receive this message: "You fail to attach the [type] Spine. Your
fumble snaps the haft!" However, Kayna bint Iswas will happily repair the
haft for you for your next attempt.
Ø
The Rubies
Each axe only has three slots available, so choose your gems wisely. The
rubies themselves cannot be dropped or given away. Once the rubies have been
installed, they cannot be removed.
Ø
Al-Shajar
The Ruby Al-Shajar, which casts Lightning Protection VI, can be found on a
Skeleton Captain in the Skeleton Outpost at 18.4S, 21.4E. Just go down a few
flights of stairs to find him.
Ø
Al-Khur
The Ruby Al-Khur, which casts Blood Drinker VI, is found in the Sylsfear Dungeon
(11.0N, 14.7E, restricted to levels 10+). Before heading to the dungeon, you
need to collect a few keys. Head to the Zabool Tower (21.7N, 19.4E) and climb to
the top. Watch out for the Lich! Portal over to Mt. Alphus and purchase Zaphoos'
Key from the vendor there. The key costs 900p and has 2 uses. Zaphoos does not
take trade notes, so bring some cash! Next, head to Alfreath Dungeon (20.5N,
13.2E). Inside, keep left and use Zaphoos' Key to open a locked door. Jump down
into the pit (2 jumps) and follow the passage deeper until you encounter a group
of Banderlings. The Banderling Captain is carrying the key needed in Sylsfear
Dungeon -- one use only. You might consider getting an extra key while you're
there!
Once you're in Slysfear Dungeon, take a left at the first fork until you reach
the Dusty Sign which says, "Only fools take the path to the right." Is
it a trick? Nope! Heed the warning on the sign and take the left door. Fight
past the Water Golem and find the Ruby Al-Khur on the Undead Defender. He'll be
waiting behind a door to the left which is opened by a pressure plate and
appears to be on a timer. You'll also encounter a Lich and a Lich Lord. If
you're interested in a bigger challenge while you're there, be foolish! Go
right! Sylsfear has all kinds of baddies, including Granite Golems, Lich Lords,
Panubris Shadows, Revenants, Astyrrians, Infernos, and a Male Tusker.
Ø
Yujazik
The Ruby Yujazik, which casts Fire Protection VI, is found lying on the floor of
a desert tent located at 18.4S, 12.7E. The tent is surrounded by a few Skeletons
and Skeleton Warriors. This is probably the easiest of the rubies to obtain.
[Updated info: this *used* to be the easiest to obtain. The surrounding area is
now more dangerous with Level 40+ creatures and even a Dread Mu-myiah or two.]
Ø
Mahwan
The Ruby Mahwan, which casts Defender VI, is found at the bottom of Grevious
Vault near Uziz (25.8S, 27.3E, restricted to levels 10-30). You'll have to make
several jumps down, with no discernable way back up, but there are exits
throughout. The ruby will be on the corpse of a Greater Mu'Miyah. You'll need to
open the door to the Greater Mu'Miyah by throwing a switch on the next to last
level. Bring a friend to help coordinate the door. Elsewhere in the dungeon you
may encounter Lesser Mu'Miyahs, Skeletons, Skeleton Warriors, Banderling Guards
and Chiefs, and Liches.
Ø
Sulmada
The Ruby Sulmada, which casts Coordination VI, is found in the Amiantos Bethel
Dungeon (16.2S, 35.1E) on a Skeleton Lord. Amiantos Bethel is the Point of
Interest west of Yanshi. Head as low as you can and look for a "T"
intersection with a bench against a wall. Turn right and go up a small ramp.
Around the corner will be a door to the right. The Skeleton Lord is behind this
door. To open this door you must use a switch located further up, almost at the
very beginning of the dungeon. It's best to bring a friend becuase the door only
stays open a limited time after you throw the switch. You might make it if you
run, but if the door closes behind you, you must kill the Skeleton Lord to be
able to open the door from inside. The best method is to have one person stay at
top to throw the switch when needed. The easiest way to get to the bottom of
Amiantos Bethel is to jump at the catwalk areas. Make sure the ground is clear
of any stone pillars where you are expecting to land. Some players have reported
getting stuck when jumping too close.

Crimson Stars cannot be dropped or given away
